Glass. That's the job.

One shop, every pane on your vehicle

We're glass specialists, not a general repair shop with a glass rack in the back. Every service below is quoted free — same-day or as soon as possible.

  1. Windshield Replacement

OEM-quality glass, urethane rated for prairie temperature swings, and a confirmed safe drive-away time before you leave.

  2. Door Glass Replacement

Break-in or blown regulator — we replace side glass and vacuum out every last cube from the door and carpet.

  3. Back Window Replacement

Rear glass with defroster lines reconnected and tested — heat, wipers and antennas working before handover.

  4. Stone Chip Repair

Resin-injected in under an hour, usually $0 out-of-pocket through SGI. Fix the chip before it becomes a crack.

  5. ADAS Calibration

Windshield cameras recalibrated after replacement — in-shop or at your location, never a second appointment at another shop. How it works.

  6. Aquapel Glass Treatment

A professional rain-repellent treatment that makes water bead and sheet off — clearer vision in prairie downpours and slush.

  7. SGI Glass Claims

We're accredited, so we bill SGI directly and handle the paperwork. You bring the vehicle; we do the forms. Claim details.

  8. Auto Pak Coverage

Carrying an Auto Pak? It can shrink or eliminate your glass deductible. We check your coverage as part of the claim.

ADAS Calibration — In-House

The camera behind your mirror needs to know where it's pointing

If your vehicle has lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, or adaptive cruise, there's a good chance a camera sits right behind your windshield near the rear-view mirror. That's ADAS — advanced driver-assistance systems — and it's aimed through the glass.

Replace the windshield and that aim can shift by fractions of a degree — enough to make safety systems read the road wrong. That's why many newer vehicles require recalibration after a windshield replacement.

Most glass shops in town send you elsewhere for that step. Gill Auto Glass calibrates in-house — and at your location, with mobile ADAS calibration across Saskatoon and surrounding areas. One appointment, systems verified before you drive away.

SGI Glass Claims

Accredited means we do the paperwork, not you

Gill Auto Glass is SGI accredited for glass. That means we deal with SGI directly on your glass claim — we submit it, we bill it, and you don't spend your lunch break on hold.

  • We open and handle the SGI glass claim for you, start to finish.
  • Your deductible depends on your coverage — an Auto Pak can lower it or bring it to zero for glass. We check what you carry.
  • Bring your licence plate number and policy info; that's usually all we need.
  • Chip repairs are often covered with no out-of-pocket cost.

Deductibles and coverage vary by policy — we'll confirm yours before any work starts.

Prairie Winters & Glass

A chip in October is a crack by January

Glass shrinks in the cold. Every deep freeze, every blast of the defroster on an ice-cold windshield, puts stress across the pane — and a stone chip is exactly where that stress lets go.

A repairable chip in the fall routinely becomes a full-width crack by the first real cold snap.

The fix is cheap and fast before freeze-up: resin-injected chip repair takes under an hour, often costs you nothing through SGI, and keeps your original factory seal. Once it cracks, it's a replacement.

-30°C

Temperature swings between a heated garage and a Saskatchewan cold snap are what turn chips into cracks.

Good Questions

Auto glass, answered straight

How soon can I drive after a windshield replacement?

Most adhesives reach safe drive-away strength in roughly 30–60 minutes, but cold weather can stretch that out. We confirm the exact safe drive-away time for your vehicle, your adhesive, and the day's temperature before you leave — no guessing.

How should I care for a new windshield?
  • Leave the retention tape on for about 24 hours.
  • Crack a window slightly the first day to relieve cabin pressure.
  • Skip the car wash for 24–48 hours.
  • Close doors gently — no slamming while the adhesive cures.
How do SGI glass claims work?

We're SGI accredited for glass, so we handle the claim directly — paperwork, billing, all of it. Your deductible depends on your coverage (an Auto Pak can reduce it, sometimes to zero for glass). Bring your plate number and policy info and we'll take it from there. More on claims.

Chip repair or full replacement — which do I need?

Rule of thumb: a chip smaller than a quarter, away from the edges and out of your direct line of sight, can usually be repaired in under an hour. Long cracks, edge damage, or anything in the driver's view usually means replacement. Not sure? Text us a photo and we'll tell you straight.

Do you offer mobile service?

Yes — we come to you across Saskatoon and surrounding areas. Home, work, or anywhere the vehicle is parked with room to work. How mobile service works.

How fast can you get me in?

We quote same-day or as soon as possible; scheduling depends on glass availability for your vehicle. Call or text 306-914-8760 anytime for a time estimate — don't like calls? Text works.

What is ADAS calibration and do I need it?

ADAS is the set of cameras and sensors behind features like lane-keep assist and automatic emergency braking — often mounted right behind the windshield. Many newer vehicles need those cameras recalibrated after a windshield swap so they aim true. We calibrate in-shop or at your location — mobile calibration across Saskatoon and surrounding areas — so it happens in the same visit. Plain-English explanation.

Know your glass

Short, honest reads — no jargon, no upsell.

Repair vs. Replace

Chip repair vs. full replacement

Where the line actually is, what each one costs you in time, and why we'll always tell you when the cheaper fix is the right one.

Read the article

A stone chip repair injects clear resin into the damage, restoring most of the strength and clarity of the glass. It takes under an hour, keeps your factory seal, and through SGI it often costs you nothing.

Repair works when the chip is roughly quarter-sized or smaller, sits away from the edges of the glass, and isn't directly in the driver's line of sight. Edge chips and long cracks compromise the structure of the pane — that's replacement territory.

Here's the honest part: a repaired chip will usually still be faintly visible. What you're buying is strength and a stopped crack, not invisibility. If a mark in your sightline would bother you, tell us — we'll talk through both options with real numbers before you decide.

Insurance

How SGI glass claims work

What "accredited" gets you, what a deductible actually is, and the three things to have ready when you call.

Read the article

Because Gill Auto Glass is SGI accredited for glass, we can open and process your glass claim directly with SGI — you don't file anything yourself, and we bill SGI rather than sending the full cost to you.

What you pay out of pocket is your deductible, and it depends on your coverage. A basic plate policy has a set deductible; an Auto Pak add-on can lower it — for glass, sometimes to zero. We check your coverage as part of the claim so there are no surprises.

To get started, have your licence plate number and policy or registration info handy, and know roughly where the damage is (a photo by text is perfect). That's genuinely all it takes.

Winter

Why a fall chip becomes a winter crack

The physics of cold glass, the defroster mistake almost everyone makes, and the cheap fix that beats freeze-up.

Read the article

Glass contracts as it cools. When a windshield drops to -30°C overnight, the whole pane is under tension — and a stone chip is a ready-made weak point where that tension can tear the glass into a running crack.

The most common trigger is the morning defroster: blasting hot air at the inside of an ice-cold windshield creates a sharp temperature difference between the inner and outer glass layers. On an intact pane it's fine. On a chipped one, it's often the moment the crack lets go.

The play is simple: repair chips in the fall, before the first hard freeze. It's under an hour, often free through SGI, and it turns a future replacement back into a non-event. If winter beat you to it, start the defroster on low and warm the glass gradually until you can get it looked at.
